Heather Mills’ VBites enters administration

Plant-based food manufacturers VBites – founded by former model and businesswoman Heather Mills – has entered administration.

In a statement published by the former wife of Sir Paul McCartney, she said her and her staff’s efforts to keep the business going were “thwarted by a demand that I stepped away from day to day management to secure essential investment”.

This, according to Mills, was coupled with a combination of “corporate greed and poor management, the cost-of-living crisis, price rises in the global ingredients and utilities markets, and the current state of manufacturing economy in Britain.

The business was founded back in 1993 producing plant-based alternatives in the meat, fish and dairy free sectors. It then grew as demand for vegan products jumped, and saw the firm acquire supplier Redwood Wholefood back in 2009.

In her statement, Mills thanked both her staff for their hard work and her customers for their “unwavering support and engagement” over the years. She added: “The plight of VBites is not an isolated case and I think it’s important to take stock and highlight the various factors that are contributing to the struggles of companies like ours in the current market

“There are learnings we can assimilate and actions we are to take if we are to ensure that the movement course corrects and grows for the greater good.”
