The business appointed KRE Corporate Recovery to deal with its creditors after entering a voluntary liquidation process. In March last year, SweetSpot decided to postpone the Women’s Tour due to funding issues and the firm’s liquidation places the future of the race into question.
It had recently lost the right to run the Tour of Britain, an event which SweetSpot runs under licence from British Cycling, due to an alleged unpaid race licence fee of around £700,000. According to reports in Cycling Weekly, none of this has been paid back.
The outlet also says the firm is facing legal action from the Isle of Wight council following the cancellation of the final stages of the 2022 Tour of Britain, due to the death of the Queen.
The liquidation also comes less than six months after the business helped run the UCI Super World Championships in Glasgow.
